The Dog Days of Summer are Upon Us: Advice for Woodworking Outdoors

We just finished building a deck for a client in Brunswick, Ohio.  It was only 10 ft. x 16 ft. custom built deck but the extreme heat and a southern exposure really zapped our energy.

Here are some suggestions for deck building or any kind of work in the summer heat:

• Stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water.
• Take plenty of breaks.
• Find some shade.
• We put up a collapsible canopy to help keep us cool.
• Don’t over do it.  Heat exhaustion can creep up on you.
• Work in the morning and evening if possible when the temperature is cooler.
